Bela Chatterjee was born on 6th July 1964. Her father Dr. Gurudas Chatterjee was a Physician by
profession but a musician of repute. He was the deciple of Maestro Sachindas Motilal and was well
known for hs Thungri and Tappa songs. He was also a lyricist for "Akashvani" or All India Radio.
Bela's mother Mahima, used to play the "Esraj". Bela thus came from a very sound musical
background. Bela Chatterjee did her post-graduation from "Rabindra Bharati University" after
graduating in Music with honours from Howrah Girl's College. She also did her B.Ed from
Chandannagar B.Ed. College.
Her Music Gurus are Late Manabendra Mukhopadhyay, Biman Mukhopadhyay, Anol
Chattopadhyay, Buddhadeb Roy, Asima Mukhopadhyay and Rashid Khan.
Performances : She is a regular artist of All India Radio and Dur Darshan, the National TV
network of India. She is regularly invited to Sing at various Govt. and non-Govt functions including
prestigious Haldia Utsav, Tamralipta Utsav, Shilpa Banijya Mela, Sangeet Mela etc. She is also
invited to many functions in Bangladesh and other countries such as U.S.A.
She is even invited to be a Judge at prestigious Music Contests organised by Nehru Children's
Museum, Dover Lane Academy and Mithun Citizen Welfare Association.
Awards : She has been bestowed with Uttam Kumar Award, Tarun Kumar Award, Subhendu
Chatterjee Award and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Award for her contribution to Bengali Modern Music
by "Bangla Chalachitra Prachar Samiti".
