Artist Arundhati Ray Choudhury was born to Archarya Debo Prasad Ghosh and Shobha
devi on 14th August 1935. She married Dilip Roy Choudhury in 1959.

She passed out from Govt. Art College, Kolkata in 1960 and started painting to her heart's
content ever since.

She was a contemporary of Sunil Das and Jogen Choudhury. Besides holding many solo
exhibitions at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, her paintings were also exhibited at
A.I.F.A.C.S. Gallery, New Delhi and Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. Her last exhibition was
held in 1974.

She was an eminent singer too. She learned Indian Classical Music from Guru Sunil
Chattopadhyay and Kirtan from Guru Brajen Sen. She was a regular singer of Bhajans,
Ghazals and Indian Classical Music from her early days in All India Radio or the Akashvani.

She withdrew from her illustrious carriers in Art and Music when her husband prematurely
passed away in 1966. Since then she devoted her life to the chantings and explanations of
Hindu Religious scriptures of Bhagwat Geeta, SriSriChandi, Vedas & Upanishads.

She is survived by her two daughters Lopamudra and Yashodhara. We in Milansagar are
most grateful to them for granting us permission to exhibit the works of this Indian Master,
Arundhati Ray Choudhury.
